Scars are visible signs of a previous surgery, burn, accident or a wound. Scar revision is an operation performed to make the scars less conspicuous and blend it with the surrounding skin tone and texture. The purpose of the surgery is to make the scars look more similar to the surrounding skin in both color and texture. Various surgical methods have been defined for this purpose and the most appropriate surgical method is selected according to the needs of the patient and the wound site. Scars on the joints can also cause limitations in joint movements. In this case, the first objective is to improve the joint movements.
In the case of raised scarring other than the width, treatment will be much different. It refers to disorders called hypertrophic scars or keloid scars. Scars in these cases can reach serious size, and also these lesions can be hyperpigmented, itchy, red and painful.
According to the size and place of the scar there are various treatment methods such as excision, excision and grafting, z-plasty, topical silicone therapy, and steroid therapy. The most appropriate treatment must be planned for you by a qualified plastic surgeon.
After treatment, the scar’s appearance worsens while healing. The recovery process takes time, usually several weeks to several months for the improvement.
